The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA) has a vision to transform Perth into a vibrant, connected city that can meet the needs of its growing population.

The driving force behind the redevelopment of Scarborough, Elizabeth Quay and Yagan Square is now being tasked with extending their Midland redevelopment area to include one of our favoured suburbs, Bayswater – becoming METRONET East.

The Midland Redevelopment Area has been extended to encompass the precincts surrounding the Bayswater and Forrestfield train stations, with a renewed focus on vibrancy, housing and employment opportunities.

This expansion, known as the METRONET East Redevelopment Area, is intended to maximise the development opportunities from METRONET transport infrastructure.

Consultations with the cities of Bayswater, Kalamunda and Swan will take place in the coming months and the statutory process is expected to run for approximately 12 months.

Planning Minister Rita Saffioti said that she believes the best possible outcome for each of the METRONET East precincts would see them develop into more attractive areas for people to live, work and visit for recreation.

“By creating METRONET East we bring together our commitment to creating more housing and employment choice and maximising our transformative investment in the Bayswater, Forrestfield and Midland areas.”

Forrestfield station works are well underway, and the Bayswater Station Upgrade is expected to commence later this year.
